Custom wide-drum DBW-5 winch

This client’s unique application combined low loads, limited 110VAC 1-ph site power, and low-height site space constraints with high drum capacity requirements and a somewhat limited budget. Standard winches in A.G.O.’s lineup couldn’t fit within the site space constraints and fit the required amount of cable while also being a relatively affordable winch.

A.G.O. designers started with the DBW-5 winch as a basis for the winch as it was ideal for fitting the required 1HP drivetrain in a relatively small winch size and limiting overall project costs, and then custom modified the frame design to fit a 20″ wide drum and levelwind to hold the client’s required cable capacity. 

This solution helped to supply a winch to the client that balanced their application requirements with their budget and site constraints where other standard winches in A.G.O.’s lineup would have been too large and/or expensive.

Other unique design features on this winch included:

• • Special layout of drivetrains and features to locate all user-interactive features on one side of the winch
  • Special intergration of client’s encoder-based cable payout metering system into the levelwind assembly
  • Special drum design to interfrace with client’s selected slip ring
