Underway Profiling Winches
Underway profiling applications require winches that can rapidly switch between freewheeling payout and powered recovery with drivetrains sized appropriately to handle the intense drag loads on the cable during recovery at boat speeds of up to 10+ knots.
Many winches commonly used for underway profiling operations have poorly-sized drivetrains with motors that overheat during recovery. A.G.O.’s standard winch sales process of modeling actual application loads ensures that you can rely on an A.G.O. winch to recover your profiler without complaint.
Standard A.G.O. winches include a manually-actuated “dog clutch” by default to switch between freewheeling payout and powered recovery. A.G.O. winches configured specifically for underway profiling operations incorporate an electric clutch that can disengange and reengage the drivetrain at the flick of a switch.
Other underway profiling winches on the market are restricted to single-model builds with limited drum capacities. A.G.O. winches come in a variety of sizes to support a wide range of underway profiling cable capacity needs simply by outfitting otherwise-standard A.G.O. winches with an electric clutch.

CSW-7 winch for underway profiling
This CSW-7 is an example of an otherwise-standard A.G.O. winch model configured with an electric clutch for underway profiling with an RBR profiling sonde. Newer winch models like the DBW-6 can similarly be outfitted with electric clutches for underway profiling.
