PID-02 field trip on the R/V Doug Anderson

A.G.O. accompanied Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans ecology researchers on a day trip aboard the R/V Doug Anderson with their PID-02 winch.  A very fun and insightful outing (and thankfully calm and dry too!).  While A.G.O.’s team member operated the winch, the DFO team worked to collect their data and also practice station-keeping to maintain the boat’s position during deployments.

The Doug Anderson’s PID-02 is used for a wide variety of work.  For this trip, it was used to collect recalibration data for a recently-serviced flow meter used in plankton sampling.  Also shown is an EWC-6 wire counter system used here with a PS-06 encoded sheave to guide the winch operator to pay out to each of the target depths and recover at the 1 m/s line speed required for calibrating the flow meter.
